What is group work?

Streetbeat runs many personal and social development group work programmes on a weekly basis for young people in the local community. What kind of things can you do? Group work involves young people looking at a wide range of topics varying from issues they face every day, to overcoming a fear. Groups we have run previously have looked at things like:

• Drugs & Alcohol
• Face your fears
• Cross Community Projects
• M.A.D. Project- young people making a difference in their community
• Healthy Lifestyle and Sport
• Confidence Building
• Body image and self-esteem
• Life Skills OCN

And remember it’s all about YOU- If you have any ideas then we can plan a programme suited to your own group.

Who can get involved?

If you are aged between 11-18 and have a group of friends that fall within the same age bracket then you can get involved here at Streetbeat. Even if there are only a few of you interested let us know as there are plenty of ways to get involved.

How do you get involved?

If you and a group of friends are interested in becoming involved in a group work programme you can contact us by filling out a general enquiry form on the “contact us” section of the website, create a group chat with us on Facebook or why not call in and see us at Streetbeat. As there are groups running currently every night we may not be able to start a group with you right away, but we will try to get you involved as soon as possible.

How long does it last?

Programmes usually last between 3 months to a year depending on what is involved in each particular project.

How many people are in a group?

The number of young people involved in each programme usually depends on the size of a particular friendship group; however, this is usually between 6-12 people. If you have a group of people in mind, but there’s only a couple of you, get in touch anyway, we’ll do all we can to try and get something sorted out.
